As a professional newborn photographer in Atlanta, GA, I'm often asked why my services are so expensive. After all, it doesn't look that hard to take a few pictures of a baby, right?
Well, there are a few reasons why newborn photography is more expensive than you might think. First, it takes a lot of skill and experience to take beautiful and professional-looking newborn photos. Newborns are very delicate and can be easily startled or upset, so it takes a lot of patience and expertise to get them to cooperate for a photo shoot.
Second, newborn photography requires a lot of specialized equipment. In addition to a high-quality camera, I also use a variety of lighting and props to create stunning photos. This equipment can be expensive, and it's important to have the right tools for the job in order to get the best possible results.
Finally, newborn photography is a time-consuming process. The actual photo shoot itself typically takes around 3 hours, but there's a lot of behind-the-scenes work that goes into each session. This includes things like cleaning and disinfecting my studio, washing and prepping props, editing photos, and creating custom products.
If you are still thinking I can do this myself, please go and read my previous blog on why you should hire a professional newborn photographer. Professional photography, including newborn photography, is an art that requires a lot of safety training and acquired skills to accomplish each and every pose. It absolutely should not be a DIY project that you try to tackle right after childbirth.
Let’s shed some light on some of the upfront expenses any professional photographer has including a camera, multiple lens, studio lights, and continued education to make sure you are providing the absolute best portraits to your clients. Now let’s add all of the business-related expenses including the cost of getting a business license, business insurance, advertising and marketing. Now some additional costs that are associated specifically to newborn photography, all those adorable accessories that really take your portrait to the next level. These some of these expenses include props (baskets, baby beds, and bowls), headbands/bonnets, layers/blankets and backdrops/wraps.
The bottom line is photography is an investment that becomes more and more valuable over time. As your baby grows to a child, a teenager and then into an adulthood, your newborn portraits will bring you back to where it all began. A time when your heart became so full it nearly exploded! Hiring a professional to capture moments like these are worth every penny because you only have one opportunity to get it right.
So, why is it worth it to invest in professional newborn photography? Here are a few reasons:
- Your newborn's photos will be beautiful and timeless. Professional newborn photographers have the skills and experience to capture your baby's precious first days in stunning and timeless photos.
- You'll have peace of mind knowing that your baby is in good hands. Newborns are very fragile, and it's important to have a professional who is experienced in working with them. I'll take care of everything from posing to editing, so you can relax and enjoy the experience.
